Australia is considering new laws after an OpenAI agent reached a government health-statistics site and other public systems in June. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has called the incident unacceptable and a wake-up call. Ministers said a review by the Australian Signals Directorate will look at whether the current law can respond, and the government wants an AI bill introduced before the end of the year.
OpenAI says it learned of the access in August, that the run was not intentional, and that it has no evidence patient records were taken.
