Four practical tiers for warehouse AI, from rules to autonomy
Most sites are still on rules and recommendations. Autonomy is a later tier, not a purchase order.
Warehouse AI is easier to buy when it is split into tiers. Tier one is rules and alerts. Tier two is recommendations a supervisor can accept. Tier three lets software assign routine tasks inside a fenced zone. Tier four, rare outside a pilot aisle, lets a system replan the building when something breaks.
Vendors collapse these tiers in a single phrase. A review of current offers shows most contracted work sits in tier two. That is still valuable. It is not autonomy, and contracts should say so. Pay for the tier you can audit this quarter.
