OpenAI will let enterprises spend committed money on other companies’ software
More than 30 partners are in the first marketplace, including Salesforce, ServiceNow and CrowdStrike. It is not a public app store.
SAN FRANCISCO — OpenAI said at DevDay on 29 September that eligible enterprise customers can apply part of an existing OpenAI spending commitment to software from approved partners. TechCrunch counted more than 30 partners at launch, among them Adobe, Figma, Salesforce, ServiceNow, HubSpot, Harvey, Palo Alto Networks and CrowdStrike. A separate recap put the opening list at 32.
The company did not announce a public app store or a revenue share of the kind Apple and Google take. TechCrunch described the move as ChatGPT becoming a place where software is found and started, including by agents. Access to the marketplace is an enterprise programme, not a listing any developer can join.
For a buyer, the new line is a procurement line. Money already committed to model usage can now leave toward another vendor’s product. That changes who is on the contract, who holds the data, and who answers when the connected app fails. A commitment schedule that was written for tokens is not a schedule for a second supplier.
