OpenAI prices the fast tier at 500 dollars a month
Astra Ultrafast is up to eight times faster and about six times the price of the standard tier. It is in the API, ChatGPT Work and Codex.
SAN FRANCISCO — OpenAI used DevDay on 29 September to put a price on speed. Astra Ultrafast, Sam Altman said from the stage, is up to eight times faster, at up to 300 tokens a second, and six times the price of the standard tier. It is in the API, in ChatGPT Work and in Codex. The new Pro 500 plan costs 500 dollars a month, includes that fast tier, and is described as 25 times the usage allowance of Plus.
GPT-6.1 Sol Ultrafast was described as coming later, not as part of Tuesday’s switch-on. The fast Astra tier is on Pro 500 and on Enterprise plans, according to a recap of the keynote.
Speed is now a line item, not a default. A team that prototypes on the standard tier and deploys on Ultrafast has changed the unit cost of every run. The acceptance test should name which tier the measurement used. A demo on the cheap tier does not price the production tier.
